 The CD-1 is a pure CD transport/player designed with the best design techniques and components possible. Used with any of the Lyngdorf amplifiers, the CD-1 provides the sort of unsurpassed performance that only comes from complementing components.
The CD-1 is designed with the all the experience gained from designing the Lyngdorf digital amplifier products.
Low-noise design techniques are applied to carefully upsample the digital output. The digital output is available in SPDIF, Toslink or AES format.
The D/A converter section is the same as in the legendary Millennium amplifier and it is being used to drive a high quality, single ended and balanced output stage.
The intuitive push-to-enter user interface is used for daily operation such as play, pause, skip etc but also for more sophisticated use such as setting all parameters of the CD-1, e.g. sample rate or the level of the audio signal output.
All operations can be of course accessed with the included remote control which also operates the Lyngdorf amplifiers.
And if you have a Lyngdorf true digital amplifier you can shut down all analog sections to turn the CD-1 into a transport only to obtain the best possible performance from the CD-1.
Some reproduce what is on the disc - the Lyngdorf CD-1 re-plays the music on the disc, no more, no less . . .
The D/A converter section (also used in the Millennium) is used to drive a high quality, single ended and balanced output stage. The D/A converter is built around the fine Wolfson WM8740 processor. This in combination with our balanced design using very fine audiophile op-amps results in outstanding sonic qualities.
The reason for upsampling the output is clear and simple. We simply regard the CD drive as an external source inside the CD-1 cabinet and therefore we resample the signal for optimum performance: We use the best sample rate converter on the market today for attenuating jitter to a very low level on the output and we enhance the audio quality by upsampling to 24 bits at a higher rate.

For a CD player solid mechanical construction is essential, so the CD-1 is built as if it was a heavy amplifier. A thick aluminium chassis frame with a heavy machined front panel and vibration damped lid to give it a tank-like construction. As with all Lyngdorf amplifiers the power supply is designed with Holmgren toroidal transformers.

The CD-1 design is based on a Philips mechanism, designed for audio only. The reason for designing a CD rather than a multi-format player is obvious from a musical point of view. All multi-format drives are based on video designs and clocks, and the audio output is then re-sampled (uncontrolled) to audio output clocks.

STEREOPLAY of Germany had an almost complete Lyngdorf system: DPA-1, SDA-2175 and CD-1 for review, issued in October 2007. In the test team's own words the result was nothing less than “sensational”.
